It's Called An Adventure

The good, the bad and the humorous – information on family travel, vacations and adventures

Hey There. I’m Billie.

Our family spends every vacation exploring a new US state. Come along for new destination ideas, recommendations, tips, reviews and the unvarnished truth about family travel.

ON YOUR MARK. GET READY. GO FIND YOUR ADVENTURE

My family has been to more than 20 states in the US and the others are on the list! We do 2-3 states per year and spend approximately a week in each one, eating the local food, hiking their trails and checking out what the state has to offer. Along the way, I’ve taken notes, taken pictures, and compiled travel tips and recommendations to help you make the most of your adventures. Explore my Travel Extras for everything from comprehensive packing lists to how to make a great travel first aid kit. Explore each state to see our stops, get the details, and read my journal. Every state we’ve been to has offered surprises, whether it be the landscape, culture or their amazing food. I want to help you find your next adventure!

Does your family love to search for treasures? We have had a great time looking for turquoise in Nevada, agates in Minnesota, crystals in South Carolina, fossilized shark teeth in Maryland, creatures in Maine tidal pools, and Petoskey stones in Michigan.

QUOTES FROM MY TRAVEL COMPANIONS

Look!! Kentucky has McDonald’s too!!

— Jax, age 4, thirty seconds after we crossed the state line into Kentucky

We sat in the car for 10 hours today. How could you possibly write a whole page about that? If I was keeping a travel journal, it would say: Day 1 – We drove. It sucked.

— Chris, after driving for 10 hours on the way to South Carolina

It’s not too early to get up. Breakfast opens at 6 AM. I read the sign in the hotel lobby last night.

— Macy, age 5, while waking everyone at 5:30 AM the first morning of vacation. She had just started sounding out words and learning to read.
